The new data protection legislation that came into effect on 25th May 2018 requires that you are aware of the information that I keep about you. I will only keep this information with your consent and you have the right to withdraw this consent at any time. You have a right to ask to see the information I hold about you, please ask me and you can view it in a session. You can ask me to change any information that is incorrect, and you can ask me to delete information I hold about you, which I will do, except for any information I have a legal obligation to keep.
I keep a record of your name, contact details, date of birth and GP on a database on my computer, which is password protected. I use these details for running my counselling practice, including contacting you about appointments. I store any emails that you send me in a separate folder on my computer and delete them after your final counselling session.
If you send an email enquiry via the contact form on my website this will be sent directly to me by email and will then be deleted from my website provider's system. They will retain the enquiry details only until they are confident it has been successfully delivered.
I also keep paper records and brief therapy notes. These are kept in a locked filing cabinet and will be shredded five years after your final counselling session.
